Choosing the material

There is no single best material for everyone. There is the right choice for your situation — and we make it together at the consultation.

Maximum aesthetics
eMax
Lithium disilicate ceramic · IPS e.max Press
from UAH 11 750 per unit
The highest translucency — indistinguishable from a natural tooth
It reproduces the colour and fluorescence of enamel exactly
Strong (compared with feldspathic porcelain)
Ideal for the front teeth
When it is chosenFront teeth, high aesthetic demands, patients who want absolute naturalness
Premium aesthetics
Feldspathic porcelain
Feldspathic ceramic · built by hand
from UAH 14 000 per unit
The most natural appearance of all
Layered by hand — a perfect imitation
Built by a master ceramist

When it is chosenDemanding patients, the smile zone, cases where perfect naturalness matters
The durable option
Zirconia veneer
Zirconium dioxide · extra strength
from UAH 14 000 per unit
Stronger than eMax — less prone to chipping
A good choice for patients who grind their teeth
Lasts 15–20 years
Slightly less translucent than eMax
Who it suitsBruxism, heavy tooth wear, cases where veneers must be extra strong
An alternative
Lumineer
Ultra-thin · no preparation
at the consultation depending on the case
Only 0.2 mm thick — almost no tooth is removed
Reversible in some cases
Not suitable for everyone — a consultation is needed
Worth knowingNot a cure-all. Suitable only in specific cases, and always requires an examination

Veneers in detail

Veneer vs Crown

A veneer is a thin ceramic shell bonded to the visible surface of the tooth. It corrects colour, shape, small chips and slight misalignment without removing much tooth.

Crown covers the tooth completely on every side — it is chosen when a tooth is badly broken down, has had root canal treatment, or needs protecting from further damage.

The guiding rule: do no harm. If a tooth is healthy and strong, a veneer preserves as much of it as possible. Crowning a healthy tooth for cosmetic reasons removes far too much.

* The final decision always rests with the doctor after an examination. We will not place a crown where a veneer will do — or the other way round.

When and how we restore

This is the question we hear most after implant surgery. Here are the steps from the operation to the permanent crown.

Day of surgery
The implant is placed
The surgeon places the titanium implant in the bone. With All-on, and with some single implants, a temporary crown goes on the same day (immediate loading).
1–2 weeks
Soft tissue healing
The wound heals and the swelling subsides. A check-up follows. Nothing is done actively — the implant is getting acquainted with the bone.
3–6 months
Osseointegration
Bone grows into the implant's microstructure. How long this takes depends on the material, the bone and your general health. Straumann SLActive allows a shortened protocol, from six weeks.
After osseointegration
Impression and crown fabrication
A digital impression — no silicone, no plaster. It goes to the dental laboratory, where the crown is milled by CAD/CAM. Fabrication takes 7–14 days.
The final step
Fitting the permanent crown
The crown is fitted and secured. We check the bite, the occlusion and the appearance. You get a tooth that will last for decades — and nobody will guess it is not your own.

Frequently asked questions

Questions and answers

Prosthetic work at Houston starts from UAH 6 900 (a zirconia crown or a veneer). The final price depends on the material and the amount of work, and is fixed in the treatment plan at the consultation.
Mild sensitivity for two to five days after fitting is a normal reaction. If the crown sits on a live tooth (one that has not had root canal treatment), it may be more sensitive to temperature. If the pain grows or has not gone within a week, come in for a check-up.
It depends how crooked. A slight rotation or tilt can be compensated for by a veneer. Serious misalignment calls for orthodontics first and veneers afterwards. Putting veneers on crooked teeth to mask an orthodontic problem is a bad idea: too much tooth is removed and the result is poor.
Zirconia and eMax crowns handle ordinary chewing without restriction. Avoid cracking nuts or bones with your teeth — that harms natural teeth too. With crowns on implants, do not open bottles or bite your nails. Otherwise: live normally.
Ceramic does not yellow or stain. But if you drink coffee and wine and smoke, the natural teeth around the veneers will yellow and a contrast appears. That is why we recommend regular professional cleaning after veneers, and cutting down on staining foods.
Replacing a crown is done under anaesthetic, so you feel nothing. It is usually needed after 15–20 years, or if a problem develops beneath it. Screw-retained crowns on implants (unlike cemented ones) can be replaced with no pain and no anaesthetic at all.
Usually six to ten on the upper jaw — that is the smile zone. Placing only two to four on the central teeth can leave a visible contrast with their neighbours. At the consultation the doctor will show you a 2D/3D mock-up, so you see the result before treatment begins.
