Wearing them at home

Does whitening hurt?
Followed correctly, no. Before the procedure we apply a protective barrier to the gums and set the lamp's power to suit your sensitivity. Afterwards there may be brief sensitivity to cold and heat for 12–24 hours — that is normal and passes on its own.
Will whitening ruin my enamel?
No, provided the protocol is followed and the teeth are healthy. The original Beyond gel contains fluoride and minerals. We never whiten teeth with decay, cracks or exposed necks — first the examination and the cleaning, then the whitening.
How long does the result last?
In-office Beyond whitening lasts 1 year without maintenance. With annual top-ups in the trays, three to five years. Colour returns faster in people who drink a lot of coffee, tea or red wine, or who smoke.
Can crowns and veneers be whitened?
No. Dental materials (ceramic, zirconia, composite) do not react to peroxide — their colour does not change. If you have fillings or crowns on visible teeth, they will need replacing to match the new shade. We tell you this before we start.
I am pregnant — can I have my teeth whitened?
No. Whitening is not permitted during pregnancy or breastfeeding, nor for anyone under 18. Not out of over-caution, but because safety at that time matters more than the colour of your teeth. Plan whitening for after you have finished breastfeeding.
Is whitening suitable for sensitive teeth?
It depends on the cause. If the sensitivity comes from exposed necks or enamel erosion, we do not whiten. If it is moderate, we choose a lower gel concentration and a lower lamp power. This is decided at the examination.

A tip from the doctor: after whitening, brush with a fluoride and hydroxyapatite toothpaste — it seals the dentinal tubules and keeps sensitivity to a minimum. Avoid abrasive whitening pastes for the first two weeks.
A tip from the doctor: the "white diet" lasts 48 hours, not two weeks. After that, pigmented food is far less of a threat. But rinsing your mouth with water after every coffee or tea will make the result last considerably longer.

Contraindications: pregnancy and breastfeeding, being under 18, untreated decay, enamel erosion, marked hypersensitivity, exposed tooth necks, and gum disease in an acute phase. In every case the decision is made after an examination — not over the phone and not in the abstract.
Fillings on the back teeth are not a problem. If they are on the front teeth, in the visible smile zone, the natural enamel will lighten after whitening while the fillings stay the same colour — and that will show. In that case the fillings must be replaced afterwards to match the new, lighter shade. We always explain this before starting.

I never whiten blind: first an examination and a cleaning, because gel will not give an even result over plaque and decay, and exposed necks can cause sensitivity. I tell people honestly what shade to expect, and that crowns and fillings will not lighten. Then the result pleases them, and it lasts."
