How much a dental crown costs in Dnipro and what types there are
A zirconia crown at Houston costs from UAH 6,900, eMax from UAH 11,750, and a crown on an implant UAH 15,500 or 17,500 depending on the system. But that is the price of the crown, not the price of restoring the tooth: if canals and a core build-up are needed first, the total will be different. Below — what makes up the figure and how to avoid a surprise in the chair.
What crowns cost
Zirconia crown
from UAH 6,900. Strong, suited to the chewing zone, handles load well.
eMax crown
from UAH 11,750. Pressed ceramic, more translucent and more natural — the choice for front teeth.
Crown on a Megagen implant
UAH 15,500. This is the crown part; the implant itself and the surgical stage are priced separately.
Crown on a Straumann implant
UAH 17,500. The same, on the premium Swiss system.
For comparison: a pressed-ceramic veneer costs from UAH 16,900. A veneer is more expensive than a crown, but it is not an «upgraded crown» — it is a different construction altogether, and we explain the difference below.
Why the final figure is higher than the price list
A tooth that has reached the point of needing a crown is almost never intact. Here is what the bill usually consists of.
Root canal treatment, if the tooth cannot stay vital
A single-canal tooth costs from UAH 6,600, a two-canal tooth from UAH 8,500, and a molar with three or four canals from UAH 11,500. We are not fond of devitalising a tooth «just in case»: if the pulp can be preserved, the tooth lasts longer. But when decay has reached the nerve, the stage is unavoidable.
Rebuilding the core
A crown needs something to sit on. If only thin walls are left, the foundation is rebuilt first — with a ceramic inlay from UAH 6,900 or a core construction. This stage cannot be skipped: a crown on a weak core fractures along with the wall of the tooth.
The temporary crown
Between preparation and fitting, the tooth must not be left exposed. A temporary crown protects it and holds the gum in the right shape — which affects how the finished work will look at the gum line.
What types of crown there are
- Zirconia. A zirconium dioxide framework — the strongest option available. Monolithic zirconia barely chips, which makes it the standard for the chewing zone and for patients who grind their teeth.
- Pressed ceramic eMax. It transmits light much like natural enamel, so it looks best in the smile zone. It is less strong than zirconia, so it is placed on molars less often.
- Metal-ceramic. For a long time it was the standard and it still appears in price lists as the cheapest option. Its drawbacks show up over time: a grey line at the gum once the gum recedes a little, and chips in the veneering layer. We do not work with it.
Crown, inlay or veneer
Three different constructions that are often confused, because all of them «cover the tooth».
- A filling or artistic restoration (from UAH 2,500) — when little is destroyed and the walls of the tooth are sound.
- Ceramic inlay (from UAH 6,900) — when the cavity is large but the walls have survived. An inlay restores the shape more precisely and settles less over time than a large filling.
- Crown — when there is little wall left, the tooth is devitalised, or there is a risk of it splitting.
- A veneer — not about strength but about aesthetics: a thin overlay on the front surface of a vital tooth. A veneer is not placed on a broken-down tooth instead of a crown.

What determines how long it lasts
The material matters, but it is not decisive. In our experience the biggest influences on longevity are:
- What is under the crown. Well-treated canals and healthy tissue around the root are the key condition. Most often a crown is removed not because it broke, but because of a problem beneath it.
- Precision at the margin. If the crown does not seat tightly, plaque accumulates at the join and decay begins. A digital protocol and work under a microscope give a better marginal fit than an impression taken «by eye».
- Bite and bruxism. Grinding at night destroys any ceramic. If it is present, a protective night guard is added to the work — and that is not an attempt to sell you something extra.
- Hygiene. Especially between the teeth and along the gum line.
How it works at Houston
- A prosthodontist consultation — from UAH 300, including a plan and a full costing, not a single figure for the crown.
- An X-ray — to assess the state of the root and the tissue around it. Placing a crown on a tooth with a problem at the root tip makes no sense.
- Preparation — canals and core if needed, with a temporary crown while the work is made.
- Digital protocol and mockup — in the smile zone we agree the result before the work starts, not after.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a dental crown cost in Dnipro?
At Houston a zirconia crown costs from UAH 6,900 and a pressed-ceramic eMax crown from UAH 11,750. A crown on an implant is priced separately: UAH 15,500 on the Megagen system and UAH 17,500 on Straumann. That is the cost of the crown itself; preparing the tooth, if it is needed, is paid for separately.
Why was I quoted more than the price list says?
Because the price list gives the cost of the crown, not the cost of restoring the tooth. If the canals have to be treated first (from UAH 6,600) and a core or ceramic inlay placed (from UAH 6,900), the total comes out two to three times higher. That is why the exact figure is given after an examination and an X-ray, not over the phone.
Zirconia or eMax — which is better?
It is not a question of better or worse but of which zone. Zirconia is stronger, so it goes on chewing teeth where the load is high. eMax is more translucent and looks more natural, so it is more often chosen for front teeth. No one will put eMax on a molar in a patient with bruxism, however beautiful it is.
How long does a crown last?
With adequate hygiene and regular check-ups a modern ceramic or zirconia crown lasts a long time. The lifespan depends less on the material than on what is underneath: the state of the root, the quality of the root canal treatment, the bite and the load. The most common reason for replacement is not a broken crown but decay at the join with the living tooth.
Can a crown be fitted in a single visit?
A crown is made in a laboratory, so time passes between preparation and fitting. For that period a temporary crown is placed — so the tooth is not left exposed and you can eat and smile normally. A digital protocol shortens the timeline but does not make the process a one-day job.
When is a filling or an inlay enough instead of a crown?
When enough of the tooth's own tissue remains. A rough guide: if less than half the crown portion is destroyed, a restoration (from UAH 2,500) or a ceramic inlay (from UAH 6,900) will do. A crown is made when little wall is left, the tooth is devitalised, and there is a risk of fracture. A comparison of the options is in the article on crowns, veneers and zirconia.
